Our bee farm also provides commercial pollination services to fruit growers across Nova Scotia.
In May, most of our beehives pollinate the orchards of apples, pears, plums, and cherries in the Annapolis Valley.
In June, we transport the bee hives to wild blueberry fields across the province as well as strawberry, raspberry, and high bush blueberries in the Valley.
Midsummer, we move some hives to cranberries, squash, pumpkins, cucumbers, and sunflowers. The rest of the colonies remain settled into clover fields and wildflower meadows for honey gathering.
When bees visit flowers, they collect pollen in the pollen baskets on their hind legs (the yellow mass on some of the bees shown). |
